What is the difference between hiring a professional makeup artist as opposed to, say, having my Aunt Sally do my makeup?

It's true that you, a relative, or friend who knows the basics can do a great makeup job. However, I come equipped with thousands of dollars of professional brands of makeup to suit any skin tone or situation. I understand how makeup affects photographic techniques, lighting, and exposure. I also have a very calming affect for jittery brides. (See some of the client comments.)

What do I need to know to keep my makeup looking fresh all night?

Carry a good translucent powder or blotting papers, lip liner, lipstick, and gloss if you choose to wear it. I layer the lip products so that they last as long as possible and can also offer a sealant, which makes any lip color indelible. I also use a foundation primer that helps with longevity. You can always opt for touch up services, which involves me being there throughout the evening. (This can be especially helpful in situations where you have a morning wedding and an evening reception.)

What can I expect at my trial run?

I will assess your skin and advise you for the best course of action to get it in optimal shape by the big day. It is very helpful if you have photos from magazines of makeup looks that you like; sometimes we have trouble verbalizing what we want. ("Dramatic" is a very subjective term!) I will also want to see photos of your gown, get an idea of what your hair will look like; learn your personal style. I will record all the colors we use and take digital photos. Some brides like to do their hair-trial on the same day to see how it will all look together. Feel free to invite your mom or a girlfriend. If you desire practice runs for other wedding party members, they are available at this same session for $50. (Your makeup trial is included in your bride package.)

How far in advance should services be booked?

You should book your dates as soon as possible. I have some dates booked as much as nine months ahead. A deposit and signed contract are required to hold your date. I need to know the number oe people in your bridal-party to determine the time I need to care for everyone. I often book more than one event on a Saturday.

How many people can get made up?

I have made-up as many as ten people by myself. But in the interest of getting everyone done quickly, I can bring an excellent assistant. I also have access to hair professionals on Sundays, (which can be a difficult day to find them). In addition to your mother and all of your bridesmaids, don't forget mother of the groom and any other close family members. The more the merrier! It can be a really nice way to spend quality time with the friends and relatives whom you may not see that often. Sometimes it ends up being a master class in makeup, as those who are waiting to get made up are watching and learning tips and tricks.

I have a bridesmaid with a tattoo on her shoulder that I would like to conceal, can you help?

Absolutely! Once I was called upon to conceal a groomsman's black eye. It took multiple layers, colors, and at least 40 minutes to make it look completely natural. "A la carte" services for wedding party members include tattoo covering, false eyelash application, and brow cleanup and run $10 extra. (For the bride these bonuses are included in her total.)

What products do you use?

My favorite foundations, tinted moisturizers, and concealers are Laura Mercier. The level of pigment in them allows for excellent coverage with a very natural look to the skin. About 75% of my kit is Mercier, and then I have various other professional artist lines such as Trish McEvoy, Bobbi Brown, and other prestige brands.
